This website exists to help people find out if they are being bitten by a mite.
The site is still under development, but for now, look at the useful resources page to get you started.
If you think you are being bitten by something, get a pest control professional (exterminator) in right away to inspect.

Hi,
I had a few cases of bird mites to deal with this summer and managed to get some good macro pictures. I put them up on the web with a little information about them on:
http://www.bed-bugs.co.uk/birdmites.html
If you want to use the pictures please drop me an email I think I have a few very high resolution ones if they are of help. It should however be said that mites are highly variable and don’t rule mites out if the ones you find don’t look exactly the same.

Thanks David!
There is a link to your excellent bird mite photos on our Resources page:

However, I would love to post them here as well, and I will email you. Thank you!
Hi,
Seems I have missed your email. Please email me at davidcain@Bed-Bugs.co.uk and I will dig out the original high resolution images for you.
Regards,
David
I finally found something that works well against what folks on the net are calling Black Pepper Mites, the name being a good description of their appearance. They might be the above mentioned rat or fowl mites. Mine came after cleaning out a chicken house and kept me evil company for over 8 years. I did not know what they were. I have found out Windex gets rid of them. Kleengreen does NOT. I spray it right on me, but not my eyes. It burns in the eyes but tears wash it a way in a few minutes. They die very quickly. Nothing else has brought me relief except sulfur and that can’t be sprayed on one’s self. Lice shampoo helped but not enough and it was too expensive to spray the entire house. I hope this helps someone else. Please spread the word!
Elizabeth,
I am sorry to hear you are suffering from a parasite. If a mite has come into your home, you really need someone to treat it - a pest management professional.
I think that spraying windex (window cleaner) on your skin is not a good idea and will cause drying or worse (in time). I would recommend people instead have someone eliminate this problem.
Have you involved any pest professionals or entomologists in helping you rid this infestation? Is it gone now, or ongoing?
All the best.
